Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (also known as Modern Warfare 2, abbreviated MW2 ) is a first-person shooter video game published by Activision Blizzard and developed by Infinity Ward. It is the sixth installment of the Call of Duty series , direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which incorporates setting and gameplay. It was released November 10, 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360 , Windows, and Nintendo DS. In a single day has sold 8.5 million copies with a revenue of 810 million dollars. This figure , however, only covers the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. The sequel , called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 , was released on 8 November 2011.

Five years after the death of Imran Zakhaev , Russia is crossed by a new ultra-nationalist current , led by the mercenary Vladimir Makarov , celebrating the former leader as a hero martyr.
After passing the training and freed by the enemy forces a small town in Afghanistan , Pfc Joseph Allen is transferred to the CIA. General Shepherd gives it a new identity to enable them to infiltrate the ultranationalist Makarov , to gain the trust of the mercenary , Allen is forced to participate in a terrorist attack at Moscow airport , killing civilians and police forces with a total of hundreds of lives. Before the escape Makarov , aware of the true identity of Allen, kills him and leaves the corpse on the ground . Russian police identify it , and the blame will fall so the attack on the CIA itself , unleashing the wrath of the entire Russia.
Meanwhile, in the mountains of Kazakhstan , near the Russian border , Sergeant Gary ” Roach ” Sanderson and Captain John ” Soap” MacTavish , belonging to Task Force 141 , infiltrate a Russian base to recover , at the behest of Shepherd, the ACS module of a satellite shot down . The two succeed in their goal , and discovered , they are forced to flee snowmobiling, destroying the entire base.
Despite the actions of the men of Task Force 141 , the Russians are able to copy the files in the module and satellite , exploiting the codes , they invade the United States in response to the terrorist attack in Moscow, beginning a likely World War III . The Russian paratroopers in northeastern Virginia are on their way the U.S. Rangers , including Sergeant Foley , Corporal Dunn and the soldier Ramirez , pledged to halt the invasion and to evacuate the rest of the civilians in several districts .
After the invasion , the Task Force 141 is engaged in a race against time to capture Makarov and put an end to the conflict. Roach and his men through the favelas of Rio de Janeiro to capture and interrogate a notorious arms dealer named Alejandro Rojas , a provider of Makarov which funded the airport attack Zakhaev . From the information obtained now know that Makarov is looking for a man , ” Prisoner 627 ” , held captive in a gulag on the shores of the Pacific. To open up the road , the Task Force 141 picking up a petrol station that the Russians used it as a missile base , eliminating the enemy anti-aircraft positions and saving the hostages used as human shields . The assault on the gulag began in the basement and the team finds the prisoner, who recognizes Soap be Captain Price , believed dead for three years , when he was supposedly killed during Operation Kingfish , as it was left behind to cover the extraction. Meanwhile the war in the U.S. continues. Russian forces have managed to get up to Washington DC and the team of Foley, together with the last remaining forces in the capital, has to slow down the enemy advance to allow to evacuate the remaining civilians .
Meanwhile , now with the rest of Task Force 141 to a submarine base in Russia, Price has an idea on how to stop the war in the U.S. , and entered the submarine, launches a nuclear missile on Washington , exploding in space, generates an electromagnetic pulse capable of disabling all electronic equipment in the northeast of the United States thus slowing down the Russian advance and causing the American counterattack .
At this point, the Rangers can fight on par against the Russians and after being repaired from the “rain of helicopters ,” will start a counter for the resumption of the White House and prevent the bombing of the capital. The battle ends with the rangers , being able to survive , observe Washington in flames. Now the Task Force is divided into two groups to scour the last two possible hiding places on Earth for Makarov . In the mountains of the Caucasus , a team led by Roach and Ghost can copy the real data in the form ACS from his computer (the files already in their hands had proved false ) . The two manage to escape and reach the extraction point in a clearing where the helicopter is waiting for them to Shepherd , but suddenly the general, as soon as the data is delivered , shoot first Roach already wounded , and then Ghost , and then burn the bodies.
Shepherd then, is the real enemy : he made sure that the identity of Allen was discovered by Makarov , the Russians were able to copy the module to ACS and the war broke out to have the full support of the American public and gain control total army .
Soap and Price , in charge of controlling the other Makarov ‘s hideout in Afghanistan , they fall into an ambush forces Shepherd , also agree to reject the ultra-nationalist troops . The two manage to escape with fleeing the plane of Nikolai . Then sneak into the base of Shepherd trying to hunt him down and kill him, but he manages to escape , only to be intercepted by the two trackers and stopped after a chase in the raft. Soap , unarmed and wounded tries to kill Shepherd , but these have the better before throwing him against a car and seriously injuring him and then shoving a dagger in his chest. While going to give him the coup de grace Shepherd reveals that he was the commander of U.S. forces committed against Al- Asad, in the previous episode , affected by nuclear blasts . The indifference of public opinion towards the disaster has prompted the general to design the entire floor , with the intention of encouraging people to worship the Army as the only force able to protect them. In that instant Price intervenes engaging the enemy with a melee but in the meantime Soap manages to pull the knife from his chest and then hurl it into the left eye of the general killing him instantly . Finally , Price and Soap bleeding their way to the helicopter Nikolai came to retrieve them and flee in an unspecified location .

Special Operations
Prestige classes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
In Modern Warfare 2 there is a co-op campaign called ” Special Operations ” , where there are missions disconnected from the main context , though they are acclimatized in the same locations . The missions can be played by one player or two players via split-screen or online connection (some specifically require two players ) . The objectives of the missions will be different from the simple to reach a certain point on the map to killing as many enemies within a time limit , a timed run on the snowmobile to the bomb-defusing , all under constant enemy fire. In total there are 23 missions , each with three stars to conquer, corresponding to three levels of increasing difficulty . Completing quests at higher difficulties , will also be shown on the ” board ” the fastest time achieved by the players of Infinity Ward , so as to be compared with that of the player .

The online game includes different game modes ranging from the classic ” all against all ” and ” Team Deathmatch ” up to ” search and destroy “, ” domain”, ” demolition” , and others. In addition there is the Veteran mode in which the game interface you will not see ammunition , map and whatnot, friendly fire will be active and will take only few bullets to kill.
